Physics of irradiation effects in metals

This volume contains the proceedings of the Conference on Physics of Irradiation Effects in Metals held in Siofok (Hungary) on May 20-24, 1991. The conference was attended by 90 participants, among them 33 from the Soviet Union and 44 from western countries. The main ideas of this conference were: (i) to emphasize the importance of fundamental research in radiation materials science and (ii) to assist establishing direct contacts between ''eastern'' and ''western'' scientists in this field. The conference was dedicated to the discussion of basic physical processes in irradiated metals. A broad spectrum of fundamental studies was interaction of radiation defects, high-energy heavy-ion irradiation effects, phase stability under irradiation, helium effects, mechanical property changes, surface effects.
