First experimental tests of SHELS: a new heavy ion separator at the FLNR

  • 1. CSNSM, IN2P3-CNRS, UMR 8609, F-91405 Orsay (France)

Description

In May 2013 the first commissioning tests were performed and evaporation residues were transported through the new separator, albeit, using the old 58 x 58 mm2 48x48 Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector (DSSD). In November 2013 transmission tests using a newly developed 50Ti beam were performed. More recently, a 100x100 mm2, 128x128 DSSD with excellent improvement in the transmission of highly asymmetric reactions were able to instrument. The results from these commissioning runs as well as the design of the new focal plane detection system are presented. Further-more, the planned experimental program is also discussed
