Design, manufacture and test of a 6T Wiggler magnet for the Daresbury SRS
Description
The 6T Wiggler is an iron-cored, warm bore, superconducting dipole magnet destined for the SERC Daresbury (UK) Laboratory's 2GeV Synchrotron Radiation Source (SRS) to enhance the available radiation spectrum. The Wiggler was delivered to Daresbury in October 1991 after successfully completing works testing and will be inserted into the ring in March - April 1992. The magnet provides a peak field of 6T on the beam line which was reached after four training quenches. The design and manufacturing contract for this magnet was started in September 1989 and was proceeded by a feasibility study, presented by Oxford Instruments in mid 1988. The paper describes the major features of the magnet and includes a discussion of the detailed magnetic and cryogenic tests performed at Oxford. (author). 2 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs
