Description
There is a controversy regarding the fission lifetime (10-18 sec versus 10-21 sec) of highly excited transuranium nuclei. An experiment is currently going on at VECC, Kolkata to measure the lifetime of 242Pu nucleus (Ex ≈ 55MeV) using X-ray-fission fragment coincidence technique and find out, if the fission lifetime is of the order of 10-18 sec or much less
