Moessbauer spectroscopy in chemistry

  • 1. Pakistan Inst. of Nuclear Science and Technology, Islamabad (Pakistan). Nuclear Physics Div.

Description

Moessbauer spectroscopy in characterised by its very high energy resolution approximately 1 part in 10/sup 12/ thus enabling the detection of very small energy changes involved in atomic/nuclear interactions. this feature has been extensively utilised in investigating chemical bonding, electronic structure, structural properties, magnetic properties and dynamic processes. This technique has been used as an analytical tool for qualitative and quantitative analysis in solid state reactions, surface studies frozen solution studies, phase transition and decay-after effects. The basic concepts of Moessbauer spectroscopy with particular reference to chemical applications will be introduced. The basic concepts of Moessbauer spectroscopy with particular reference to chemical applications will be introduced. The role of this technique in biochemical applications will also be discussed.
