CAREM SMR in the Argentinean nuclear plan
Description
The CAREM project has been in the nuclear background in Argentina since the 80s. In 2006 the Government finally decided to finish the design and build the first prototype. Being an innovative NPP and the first SMR to be built it was important to settle the first unit in our own country. With a nuclear plan that expects to expand the nuclear share in the energy mix in Argentina, and CAREM25 (30MWe) already under construction, CNEA is now giving the first steps in the design of a commercial plant (480MWe) to strengthen the deployment of Argentinean NPPs. Both the 30MWe and 480MWe plants are of interest to foreign countries willing to install a SMR, considering electricity production and industrial uses.
