Description
The report provides information on the French assistance programme in Russia to remove submarine spent nuclear fuel from Gremikha site, a former navy base. The programme dealt with two types of fuel: a standard submarine WWR fuel and fast reactor fuel. The latter was contained in specific reactor cores that required the development of unique operations for their handling and defueling. A significant number of the WWR fuel assemblies appeared to be damaged, which required the manufacturing of specific equipment and development of technologies for their safe handling.
