Description

This report describes briefly the scheme of Olkiluoto geological repository for spent nuclear fuel and provides background information of possible areas of diversion. The routes for unauthorized diversion of nuclear material are discussed. The handling and disposal of spent nuclear fuel are shortly described and opportunities for unauthorized diversion in different stage of the process are summarized. The main purpose of this report is to describe possible methods for the detection of unauthorized diversion by using environmental monitoring of the repository. The isotopic signatures that maybe present are discussed and possible analytical techniques monitoring these signatures are described. The report is based on the reports of SAGOR program. (orig.)
