Studies on the effect of superoxide dismutase on radiation-induced changes in the DNA molecule. 3

  • 1. Lodz Univ. (Poland)

Description

In order to determine the difference between the specific enzymatic influence of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the unspecific influence of the protein, investigations were carried out under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The active site of SOD was blocked by CN-. The main method used to determine the postirradiation damages in DNA was the determination of the amount of terminal phosphate released. The investigations carried out under the conditions specified above, lead to the conclusion that SOD acts as enzyme and that O2- participates in the irradiation-induced DNA damages. (author)
