Effect of superoxide dismutase and chemical radioprotectors (cysteine and glutathione) on the radiation induced changes in the DNA molecule. 2

  • 1. Lodz Univ. (Poland)

Description

Results concerning the radioprotective action of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and of the chemical radioprotectors cysteine and glutathione on 60Co γ-irradiated DNA are presented. The highest reduction of the radiation yield for single breaks Gp1 was found in the cases of irradiation in the presence of chemical radioprotectors. By estimation of polynucleotide chain breaks with alkaline phosphatase and by centrifugation in sucrose density gradient, statistically significant differences were found between the action of active and inactivated SOD which were not observed with respect to double breaks.
