Electric system expansion planning in Belarus

Description

Belarus has no nuclear power plant in operation. However, the limited indigenous resources indicate that nuclear power can be effective in alleviating the dependence of the country on imported energy resources. This paper describes the results of a recent study for the expansion of the generating system of the country that was carried out using the WASP computer model and highlights the conditions for which nuclear power can be a part of the least cost solution for expanding the electricity generating system of the country.
