Irradiated fuel and waste management
Description
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories has a unique history when it comes to carefully managing irradiated fuel and waste. Our involvement began in 1947, with the then most powerful reactor in the world - National Research Experimental (NRX) - through to the present day, with the longest operating reactor - the National Research Universal (NRU), commissioned in 1957. The experiences in managing the many diverse fuel configurations and storage approaches are unique in the industry today. This presentation provides the history, challenges and next steps in managing CNL's irradiated fuels and waste, economically and safely.
