Estimating the patient's radiation dose using the Size-Specific Dose Estimation (SSDE) method on a Computed Tomography (CT) abdominal scan at the radiology installation at Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar

Description

A study on estimating the radiation dose of patients using the SSDE method has been carried out on an abdominal CT scan at the Radiology Installation of the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar. The SSDE method is a very precise method used in determining the estimated value of the radiation dose because this method takes into account the patient's body size. The data parameters used were CTDIvol, LAT length, and AP length in patients over 25 years of age. The data were grouped into two, namely male and female patient data. The SSDE value is obtained from the multiplication between the conversion factor and the CTDIvol. The conversion factor was obtained by determining the effective diameter of the length of the LAT and AP on the abdominal CT scan images using Table AAPM 204. The results showed that the SSDE value in female patients was greater than that of male patients. In female patients, the mean SSDE was 9,92±1,58 mGy, while in male patients it was 9,82±1,95 mGy. The dose value in female or male patients does not exceed the value set based on Decision of the Head of BAPETEN No. 1211/K/V/2021 Concerning Determination of Indonesian Diagnostic Reference Level Values for CT Scan X-ray Modalities and General Radiography, so that it can be stated that the irradiation process does not cause effects that can harm the patient's body, such as damage to body cells and genetic damage.
