Nuclear waste remediation: counter-current extraction with N,N,N',N'-tetraoctyl diglycolamide (TODGA)

Description
A mixture of N,N,N',N'-tetraoctyl diglycolamide (TODGA) and N,N-dihexyl octanamide (DHOA) has been evaluated in mixer-settler runs for actinide partitioning from simulated high level waste solutions of PHWR origin. The results suggest that trivalent lanthanides could be quantitatively extracted in four stages and stripped quantitatively in equal number of stages. Extraction of other metal ions such as Fe, Mn, Ni, Ba, Mo, Cs and Na was negligible. On the other hand, Sr and Cr were poorly extracted. (author)
