Description
Total radiation protection against lethal effects of whole-body 60Co γ-irradiation expressed by dose reduction factor (DRF) and dependent on the degree of abdominal compression during irradiation inducing hypoxia in the lower part of the body was studied in rats. Under conditions of gradually ischemia the pO2 in hind leg muscle was measured and the dependence of radiation protection was determined in relation to the medium pO2 values of the muscle. Total radiation protection was reached in maximum ischemia with a DRF value of 2.06
