Description

Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) is the first commercial sodium-cooled fast reactor in India. High-density boron carbide pellets (enriched with 10B ∼ 67 at. %) stacked in alloy D9 clad tubes are used as control safety rod (CSR) and diverse safety rod (DSR) in PFBR. Liquid sodium flows through the gap between B4C stack and the clad tube through vent holes provided on the CSR and DSR. Alloy D9 and B4C were equilibrated in liquid sodium at 873, 923 and 973 K for a period of 1000 – 5000 h. EPMA and SEM were used for characterization of D9.(author)
