Numerical analysis of explosion-induced D-T compression for obtaining critical fusion parameters. Part 3 - neutron yield

Description

An analysis was performed of the neutron yield at the explosive induced, profiled D-T compression in the spherical system. By confining the study to the first two shock waves, neutron yields were obtained, of the order of 109 divided by 1013, from D-T balls of a radius of 1 divided by 2 cm, at the liner velocities of (1 divided by 3) x 106cm/s. It has been demonstrated that, on consideration of three shock waves, the neutron yields grow, by nearly an order, up to 1014. The study on the further phases of the process i.t. the fourth and the subsequent shock waves, leads to a further rise in the neutron yield above the value of 1014, in the case of the D-T ball of a radius of 2 cm. This may constitute a starting point towards an avalanche thermonuclear reaction. (author)
