From March 30 to April 2 1992, about 80 scientists working on various aspects of accelerator physics and particle optics gathered at Humboldt University in a small eastern suburb of Berlin to discuss nonlinear phenomena in beam physics. There were talks about the foundations of the field and new techniques; several contributions addressed codes that allow their application in practice, and two papers summarized experiments subjecting the fruits of theoretical pursuits to the uncompromising test of reality.
