Description

SMR Technology Forum has identified a number of issues relevant to the development of a small modular reactor. Some of these are as follows. Principles to guide development of an alternative approach (as per REGDOC 2.5.2). Examples of graded approach application for SMRs is needed. Past experience with licensing research reactors, prototypes and demonstrations. Guidance on core damage Frequency and approach for probabilistic safety assessment. Use of inherent material properties. Guidance on how to build a safety case with consideration for inherent material properties is needed. Demonstration and application of defence-in-depth. Guidance is needed to support development of the safety case as well as safety classification. Could benefit from understanding the configuration management aspects between the conceptual design phase and when the design reaches maturity; vendor versus licensee responsibilities.
