Brief introduction to the geological and geophysical work being carried out on uranium in China
Description
A brief introduction to the geological and geophysical work being carried out on uranium in China is given. It comprises four stages. (1) Reconnaissance, with the purpose of studying ore forming environments by collecting various regional geological, geophysical and geochemical data and conducting in situ investigations. (2) Uranium prospecting, using various radiometric methods such as airborne surveys and ground surveys with portable Geiger-Mueller and scintillation counters, and measurement of radon and its daughter products, helium and mercury. (3) Exploration and evaluation of uranium occurrences and anomalies and the role of various non-radiometric methods such as shallow seismic induced polarization, magnetic induced polarization and direct geo-electrochemical techniques. (4) Detailed exploration of uranium deposits. (author)
