Uranium deposit model for estimation of ore reserves in the Remaja area, west Kalimantan

  • 1. National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN), Jakarta (Indonesia). Centre for Nuclear Materials Exploration and Processing

Description

Favourable uranium mineralizations were discovered in the Kalan prospect, west Kalimantan, during the exploration activities that were carried out between 1974 and 1978. Estimation of the ore body reserves was started in 1980 in Remaja, which is the area with the most potential in the Kalan prospect. A description is given of the uranium mineralization characteristics that have been observed since completion of an exploration tunnel, e.g. the subsurface extensions, dimensions, uranium contents and distribution which have been obtained from systematic surface and underground drilling and geological and grade controls carried out in the adit and in the drifts. The ore body consists of several groups of undulating mineralized fault breccia which formed a boudinage structure within the metasedimentary rocks. Furthermore, it was found that oxidation effects control the distribution of uranium. These data will aid in the calculation of reserves. (author). 5 figs
