Cascadeless radiation effects in thin films on metal surfaces
Description
This paper considers the opportunities of field ion and atomprobe techniques to contribute to an understanding of irradiation effects at relatively massive metal substrate - thin (up to ten atomic layers) film systems. Experimental data on processes of primary-structure defect formation, film surface atom sputtering, radiation-stimulated surface diffusion, mutual mixing of film and substrate components for the W-Re, W-Cu, U-In systems are shown. In all cases the metal-film systems were irradiated by gas ions having energies insufficient to initiate cascades of atom-atom displacements
