Charm and tau physics at CLEO II

Preliminary results are presented on decays of the D* mesons and the τ lepton. In the Charm sector the radiative and pionic decay rates of both the neutral and charged D* are measured. In particular, a branching fraction has been found for D*+→D+γ of (1.0±1.3±0.5)% which is consistent with theoretical predictions but different from the Particle Data Group value of (18±4)%. In τ decays final states with η mesons have been searched for. A first observation for the mode τ+→ντπ+π0η of (.16±.02±.03)% is reported. Limits for several modes with one or more η are improved by one to two orders of magnitude. (K.A.) 10 refs.; 2 figs.; 2 tabs
