Description
The application forged-normalized-hardened-tempered 1050 steel in the front-wheel-hub (FWH ) of modern motor-cars necessitates a controlled microstructure i.e a good tempered martensite. Research in areas of heat treatment and metallography is conducted on forged 1050 steel, for FWH of modern motor cars. Experiments are conducted by use of modern (high precision) microhardness machine and metallographic equipment. The microstructure is quantitatively analyzed; and the ASTM Grain Size No. is calculated to be 8. The microstructural analysis and the structure/property relationship reveal that the material: forged normalized hardened tempered 1050 steel, when heat treated under controlled conditions, is appropriate for application in FWH of modern motor cars.
