Description

In recent years a number of lasers pumped directly by nuclear reaction products have been demonstrated. The aim of nuclear pumped laser research is to develop efficient high-power lasers where the high-energy charged fission fragments and neutrons from nuclear reactions are used directly to generate the population inversion. Also, such systems have the potential of high-power output without the need for external power supplied and would be ideal for use in remote locations or for space power transmission application. This form of laser or DNP laser (Direct Nuclear Pumping laser) can result in uniform stable plasmas at high pressure. Also, DNP lasers and gaseous core reactors combined could provide a multipath energy-flow system of a type well suited for power production in a society strongly attuned to environmental considerations. The proceedings presented in this volume contain thirty papers on present state of technique about nuclear-pumped lasers and laser-induced plasmas
