Proceedings of international symposium on radiation detectors and their uses (ISRD2016)

The first International Symposium on Radiation Detectors and Their Uses (ISRD2016) was held in Kobayashi-Hall at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in Tsukuba, Japan, from January 18 to 21, 2016. This symposium was organized by KEK and the 186th Committee on Radiation Science and Its Applications of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) with the cooperation of the Ionizing Radiation Division of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), the Radiation Science and Technology Subcommittee of the Atomic Energy Society in Japan (AESJ), and the Kita-Kanto Branch of AESJ. This international symposium was positioned as the memorial conference of the 30th workshop on radiation detectors and their uses. This workshop has took place every year for 30 years under the promotion of KEK and plays a unique role by providing opportunities to researchers in various fields to discuss all topics related to radiation detectors in Japan. As anticipated by the aims of the symposium, the spectrum of contributions was very broad and covered the following: Basic Process of Radiation Detectors, Gas-filled Detectors, Scintillators and Scintillation Detectors (including Photodetectors), Semiconductor and Superconductor Detectors: Materials and Devices, Astrophysics and Space Instrumentation, Neutron Detectors and Instrumentation, Imaging Systems for Nondestructive Testing, Medical, and Other Uses, Radioactivity Measurements and Dose Evaluations, Environmental Radiations (including topics on the accident at Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant). In ISRD2016, 11 invited speakers delivered key-note talks, of whom five came from abroad. There were 83 presentations in total, including 35 contributions by poster. Among these contributions, 45 papers were accepted after peer-review and are published here in this proceedings. The 38 of the presented papers are indexed individually. (J.P.N.)
