Recommendations and statements of the Commission on Radiological Protection 1990/1991

The papers discuss guidelines, recommendations and statements dealing with the protection of man against the harmful, effects of nonionizing radiation such as U.V. radiation, radio relay and radar waves, electric and magnetic fields. The relief actions of the SSK in regions of the former Soviet Union affected by the Chernobyl reactor accident are reported. Several papers deal with the radiological protection principles to be applied to the release of scrap accruing from the shutdown of uranium mining plants, or for the release for industrial use or forestry, agricultural or recreational and residential purposes, of areas contaminated by uranium mining activities, as well as to the release of building debris. One paper sets out the need for epidemiological studies to be carried through on the health of inhabitants of the mining regions in Saxony and Thuringia. The last paper presents the recommendations of the SSK for the advancement of the Radiation Protection Programme of the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Reactor Safety (BMU).
